Disciplines: Practical shooting encompasses several formats, including:
IPSC (International Practical Shooting Confederation): Focuses on speed and accuracy, with shooters navigating courses that require engaging targets in specific sequences.
UKPSA (United Kingdom Practical Shooting Association):
Similar to IPSC, it emphasises practical shooting techniques and includes various divisions based on equipment types.
3-Gun: Involves using three different firearms—typically a rifle, shotgun, and pistol—across multiple stages.
Courses of Fire: Stages often involve various shooting positions, movement between targets, and obstacles. Shooters must demonstrate their ability to adapt quickly, aiming for both precision and speed.
Targets: Competitors engage a mix of paper targets and steel plates, with varying scoring zones that reward accuracy. Some courses may include moving targets or reactive targets that respond when hit.
Equipment: Shooters typically use semi-automatic pistols, rifles, and shotguns, depending on the discipline. Equipment varies widely, with specific rules governing modifications and types of firearms allowed in competitions.
